General Information:

Belgium is a parliamentary monarchy, member of the European Union Foundation whose main institutions are located in Brussels, the capital. The country is officially bilingual but Dutch is clearly the main spoken language in the north, while in the south, French dominates.

Economy:

The economy of Belgium is mostly made of the tertiary sector, especially tourism. Many people from neighbouring countries spend their holidays on the Belgian coast. One of the most preferred destinations is Bruges, a town also known as "The Venice of the North".

Health:

Medical subscriptions are not expensive in Belgium and almost every inhabitant is covered by one of the public health insurance funds. One must still pay consultations in advance before being reimbursed.

Education:

There is a very well developed network for child care in Belgium. Nannies and babysitters for example, work under the watchful eye of the State in order to ensure a professional service. As a result, many Belgian mothers go back to work earlier after childbirth.

Expatriates:

Most expatriates who spend their relocation in Belgium settle in Antwerp, Brussels, or Tervuren. Yet, the real estate market may vary significantly from one city/region to another.
